Veronica Calderon is the chief belonging and university relations officer at DeVry University. Among her responsibilities, Calderon leads the diversity, equity and inclusion strategy and goals for the University, through intentional initiatives and implementations for our students, faculty and colleagues, and oversees DeVry’s business resource groups (BRGs). In her role, she also provides oversight of DeVry’s alumni relations, communications, and social responsibility efforts, as well as the DeVry Scholarship Fund, a 501(c)(3) public charity that works in partnership with but separate from DeVry University to help students to succeed.
An intentional leader with more than 20 years of leadership and diversity, equity and inclusion experience in an array of sectors, Calderon previously was the Senior Vice President of Diversity, Inclusion and Equity at Truliant Federal Credit Union and served in similar roles at Aldersgate Life Plan Organization – a long-term care community organization, Carolinas HealthCare System and Wells Fargo Bank.
With her work, Calderon has received numerous honors, including DEI Champion 2023 by HRO Today, the Charlotte Business Journal’s Women in Business Achievement Awards and by Career Mastered Magazine as part of their Diversity IMPACT 50 List, which highlights the achievements of the nation’s leading women change makers in Diversity & Inclusion. She was also named UNC Charlotte Empowering Latina Woman of the Year and Business Woman of the Year by La Noticia Exelente Awards.
Calderon serves as the Board Chair for Communities in Schools, in Charlotte, NC., and previously served as the Latin Chamber of Commerce, Vice Chair.
Calderon holds an undergraduate degree in Business Management from the University of Phoenix and an MBA from Belk College. She also earned a Diversity & Inclusion certificate from Cornell University, Human Resources and Diversity & Inclusion certification from SHRM, and certificate for the Charlotte Chamber Emerging Business Leaders.
