CPA Exam and Licensure Disclosures

The educational prerequisites for Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensure can differ significantly from state to state and U.S. territory. These variations may include the number of accounting and business course hours required, as well as  specific  course topics. These differences can affect a student's eligibility  to sit for the Uniform CPA exam and apply for licensure in various jurisdictions. Institutions are obligated to disclose whether their programs fulfil the educational prerequisites for professional licensure or certification on a state-by-state basis.

Student Complaint Procedure

The Illinois Board of Higher Education and Federal Program Integrity rules issued by the U.S. Department of Education require institutions to provide to students or prospective students contact information needed to file a complaint with its accrediting agency and with relevant state agencies. This list includes contact information for all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. It should not be construed as informative of what agencies regulate DeVry University or in what states the institution is licensed or required to be licensed. Accreditation
Associate of Science in Health Information Technology

The University’s accreditation for the Associate degree program in Health Information Technology (HIT) has been reaffirmed through 2029—2030.

 

As reported on DeVry University’s 2023 CAHIIM Annual Program Assessment Reports, HIT program graduates who were eligible for, and chose to sit for, the Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification exam had a 66% pass rate for first time test takers in academic year 2022—2023.

 

Graduation rates for all new full-time students, including transfers, for fall cohorts were: 2008 37%, 2009 34%, 2010 34%, 2011 28%, 2012 33%, 2013 32%, 2014 27%, 2015 36% and 2016 42%.

 

Retention rates for all first-time freshmen, including new transfers, for fall cohorts were: 2014 40%, 2015 54%, 2016 46%, 2017 62%, 2018 63%, 2019 58%, 2020 52% and 2021 56%.

 

Bachelor of Science in Technical Management – Health Information Management

The University’s accreditation for the Baccalaureate degree program in Health Information Management has been reaffirmed through 2029—2030.

 

As reported on DeVry University’s 2023 CAHIIM Annual Program Assessment Reports, BSTM-HIM program graduates who were eligible for, and chose to sit for, the Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certification exam had a 22% pass rate for first time test takers in academic year 2022—2023.

 

Graduation rates for all new full-time students, including transfers, for fall cohorts were: 2010 67%, 2011 43%, 2012 100%, 2013 25%, 2014 86%, 2015 25% and 2016 50%.

 

Retention rates for all first-time freshmen, including transfers, for fall cohorts were: 2014 69%, 2015 47%, 2016 44%, 2017 71%, 2018 71%, 2019 45%, 2020 62% and 2021 17%.

 

Timeframes, Definitions and Calculations

The outcomes below were reported to CAHIIM in May 2024. CAHIIM required only summary data for graduates. A placement rate was not reported. Data was reported for all students who graduated between July 1, 2022 and June 30, 2023. In-field and out-of-field employment includes new employment obtained within a year after graduation. “New employment” is defined as employment obtained no earlier than 6 months prior to graduation. “Existing employment” is defined as employment that existed at the time of enrollment or was obtained more than 6 months prior to graduation.

Institution Graduation Rates

The federal Student-Right-To-Know and Higher Education Opportunity Acts require institutions to make completion rates available upon request to prospective students and other interested parties. The Acts define the cohort of students on which the institution must report. This cohort is comprised of "first-time, full-time, degree-seeking" students in the institution's fall term that completed their program of study within 150% of their program length.

Religious Holiday Observance

In support of students’ observance of their religious holidays, DeVry University has developed the Religious Holiday Observance policy. Students who expect to miss classes or other course requirements because of their observance of a religious holiday will be provided reasonable accommodations to complete missed work. In order to be provided alternative accommodations, students must notify their professor of the need to be absent from class and/or miss a course requirement prior to the observance of the religious holiday(s). Students are encouraged to contact faculty as soon as they are aware that their religious holiday will conflict with class requirements. Students who notify their professor of the need for an accommodation will be provided an alternative assignment or extension to submit work after the conclusion of the religious holiday.

Transfer Credit Policy


DeVry’s academic catalogs include the Prior Learning Credit policy, which provides information on transfer credit. Academic catalogs are available via devry.edu/online-programs/academics/academic-catalog.

Undergraduate Policy: 
DeVry welcomes students with previous college experience and grants students the opportunity to receive credit toward graduation through an evaluation of college-level credit earned at other DeVry-recognized postsecondary institutions.

Applicants seeking to transfer credit from another institution must request an evaluation prior to beginning the first class at DeVry. An official transcript from the institution where the credit was earned is required. DeVry may also require a catalog or additional course material or, if credits were earned at a foreign institution, a credit evaluation by an approved external evaluation service. A maximum of 80 DeVry credit hours may be awarded for lower-division or community college courses. Transfer credit maximums are also subject to DeVry's residence requirement for the chosen program (visit the undergraduate academic catalog for more information about residency requirements). Students attending DeVry who seek to earn credit at another institution for transfer to DeVry must have approval to do so in advance from a DeVry academic administrator.

Evaluation of previous postsecondary education and training is mandatory for VA beneficiaries. DeVry grants appropriate credit, reduces program length proportionately, notifies students and Veterans Affairs in writing of this decision, and adjusts invoicing to the VA accordingly for students using veterans benefits and approved for transfer credit as a result of this evaluation.

DeVry maintains a written record of previous undergraduate and graduate education completed by veterans and all persons eligible for veterans benefits. A copy of official transcripts used to evaluate transfer credit is maintained in each student’s permanent record. This record, required for transfer-credit review, clearly indicates when appropriate transfer credit has been given. A veteran enrolled in a DeVry University course for which credit has already been earned at a University-recognized institution cannot include that course in the total hours reported to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. It is the student’s responsibility to be aware of prior credit eligible for transfer.

In addition to transfer credit for prior college coursework, DeVry also evaluates military coursework and training experience, professional certifications and training and standardized examinations. Students who do not have applicable credit from these prior learning experiences may be eligible for portfolio assessment.

To facilitate ease of transferring credits among institutions, the University maintains articulation agreements with many DeVry-recognized two- and four-year colleges and universities, as well as with entities such as the military. Applicable course equivalencies resulting from these agreements are reflected on students’ transfer credit evaluations. Information on agreements maintained by DeVry is available via https://www.devry.edu/admissions/transfer-applicants.html.

Transfer and/or proficiency credits that satisfy graduation requirements are considered when determining a student’s academic level and progress; however, these credits are not used when computing GPAs. Neither transfer nor proficiency credit is granted for certain courses, designated in the academic catalog, which must be completed at DeVry.

Students who receive transfer or proficiency credit for a course are not automatically granted associated credit for lower-level, prerequisite and/or corequisite courses.

Acceptance of transfer courses and award of transfer credit neither imply nor ensure that all transfer credit will fully apply to students’ chosen programs. Transfer courses must have been completed with grades of C (70%) or better.

Other restrictions on transfer and proficiency credit may apply; e.g., transferability of courses may be limited by programmatic accreditation requirements.

Graduate Policy: Students pursuing a master’s degree or graduate certificate may apply transfer credit for up to 50% of the program’s credit hours. State-specific limits on prior learning credit, which includes transfer credit, are available in Keller’s academic catalog.

Students seeking more than one credential at the same level must meet all course requirements for each program as well as satisfy residency requirements. Visit the Keller academic catalog for more information about residency requirements.

All 600-level courses, including Capstone courses, must be taken through DeVry University.

Transfer credit is not granted for CMA exam preparation courses or for CPA exam preparation courses and cannot be applied to ACCT525, ACCT540 and ACCT601. Courses taken on a pass/fail basis may not be transferred.

To receive transfer credit, the following criteria must be met:

  • The course or courses taken were for graduate credit while the student was enrolled as a graduate student

  • The course or courses taken are equivalent to a Keller course in content, level and credit hours

  • The grade or grades earned were B or better

  • The course or courses were completed within the 10 years preceding initial enrollment at the University

Transfer credit reduces the number of courses students must take and correspondingly reduces students’ costs. This credit does not affect grade point average calculations.

 

Students who receive transfer credit for a course are not automatically granted associated credit for prerequisite courses.

 

Students must complete a Request for Transfer Credit form and submit it to the admissions advisor (admissions representative in Florida, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nebraska and online), or student support advisor or academic advisor, with all required materials when applying to receive transfer credit. Students should check with their admissions representative/student support advisor/academic advisor for more detailed information.

 

Articulation agreements facilitate ease of transferring credits among institutions. DeVry University maintains articulation agreements with many colleges and universities, as well as with entities such as the military. 

 

The University awards transfer credit, as appropriate, based on recommendations of the American Council on Education College Credit Recommendation Service, which evaluates workforce and military training programs to determine their comparability to college-level learning. To earn credit, students must have the minimum ACE requirements, such as the minimum recommended score or higher for their certification or training programs. Additional information on workforce and military training recommendations is available via the National Guide to College Credit for Workforce Training and the ACE Military Guide Online, respectively.
