Graduate Certificate FAQs

Is it worth it to get a graduate certificate?

If you want to build new skills, prepare to stand out or advance your management competencies, a graduate certificate may be a great fit for you. An online graduate certificate program can be completed in less time than a master’s degree, helping you gain the career skills you need as you prepare to take the next steps toward your future.

Is a graduate certificate the same as a master’s degree?

No. There are several distinctions between a graduate certificate program and a master’s degree program. A graduate certificate program is typically shorter, honing in on skills and concepts in a particular area of interest.

Completion of a master’s degree program entails more credit hours, which will typically take more time as your coursework explores concepts, skills and disciplines more deeply while also diving into core business concepts.

Is a graduate certificate above a bachelor's degree?

Yes, a graduate certificate is a graduate-level credential, whereas a bachelor’s degree is an undergraduate credential. Because a graduate certificate is a graduate-level program, you must successfully complete a bachelor’s degree before you can enroll.

Complete admissions requirements for our Keller graduate certificate programs can be found on our Graduate Admissions page.

How long does it take to complete a graduate certificate program?

Here at DeVry and our Keller Graduate School of Management, you can choose the schedule that best fits your goals and commitments. Our Graduate Certificate in Accounting Certification Preparation, for example, can be earned in as few as 8 months when you choose an accelerated schedule or 12 months on a normal schedule.

For our graduate certificates, choosing an accelerated schedule assumes full-time enrollment (9 credit hours) for 2 consecutive semesters, whereas a normal schedule assumes full-time enrollment (6 credit hours) for 3 consecutive semesters.

Can I earn a graduate certificate online?

Yes! All of  our graduate certificate programs can be completed 100% online, enabling busy adult learners like you to study when and where you like.

7Credits and degrees earned from this institution do not automatically qualify the holder to participate in professional licensing exams to practice certain professions. Persons interested in practicing a regulated profession must contact the appropriate state regulatory agency for their field of interest. For instance, typically 150 credit hours or education are required to meet state regulatory agency education requirements for CPA licensure. Coursework may qualify for credit towards the State Board of Accountancy requirements. However, it is the student’s responsibility to contact the state board of accountancy for the jurisdiction in which they are applying to determine whether they have completed the appropriate credit hours and coursework to qualify to take the CPA exam. Employees of DeVry University and its Keller Graduate School of Management are not in a position to determine an individual’s eligibility to take the CPA exam or satisfy licensing.
8Select courses within Keller’s graduate certificate programs may be available at some DeVry University locations. Graduate certificate credentials are issued by DeVry University’s main campus, in Naperville, Illinois.
